The MPW Track Bike Project: Part 1

With the short English summer having abruptly come to and end (without really getting going), we are looking forward to our winter project – turning this 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600 into a track bike, using as many MPW products as we can. We have also had some help from our suppliers – Michelin have kindly helped us out by supplying some Power Cup Evo tyres for us to use. We are hoping to find the time to document the process as well as we can – there is plenty of work to be done, including fitting new braided brake lines, replacing pads and discs, tyres, fitting new REZO levers, race fairing and an MPW screen. That’s not to mention some MPW crash bungs and potentially a smattering of R&G parts too. With any luck we are hoping to also have a snazzy paint job sorted to finish her off nicely. Once all the work is complete, we will be firing it around a few tracks to test all the components, as well as taking her along to trade shows.

First job was to strip off all the old fairing. Once this was done we removed the rotten old downpipes and managed to find a decent set on ebay to replace them. The next step is to give the engine and frame a good clean and then we will be in a position to put the exhaust back on, including a Toro Hex can.

So here we are – a shot of all the parts we have lined up so far, ready to fit. Keep an eye out for further posts in the near future, and potentially some video content showing the process of putting it all together.  We hope this will inspire you to get cracking on your track bike, as well as showing you how easy it can be to work on your own bike…unless you have rusted exhaust bolts on a suzuki, and then it really really isn’t fun!
